The paper looks at the travel of the tea plant Camellia Sinensis var assamica between India and East Africa, and the eventual development of a new variety called “purple tea”, TRFK 306/1. The new clone is more climate resilent and with various health benefits for the consumers. The Kenyan tea industry puts a lot of hope in purple tea.
